Gift Planning

HOW WILL YOU BE REMEMBERED?
WHAT WILL YOUR LEGACY BE?

Your legacy is what you do for other people, the impact your actions have on lives long after you are gone and how you are remembered. With planned giving you make a contribution to future generations, while you and your loved ones enjoy the financial benefits. Planned gifts may include retirement assets, stock, life insurance proceeds or real estate. By including a charitable provision in your will or trust, or by designating a future gift of life insurance or retirement plan assets, you become a partner on our mission to better our community. We are grateful to those who have made provisions in their plans and want to acknowledge their thoughtful generosity and intentionality.

Testimonial

"Karen and I have been active contributors to Pikes Peak United Way for more than 10 years. We recently reached the age at which we must take Required Minimum Distributions from our IRA accounts. In addition, the 2017 changes to the federal Tax Code made it more difficult to use our charitable contributions to PPUW and other organizations to reduce our federal tax liability.

So we discussed with our IRA Custodian the possibility of using Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD's) to meet our charitable giving goals, while still reducing our total tax liability. The process turned out to be both simple and effective. At the beginning of each year, our IRA Custodian gives us the RMD amounts for each of our IRA accounts. At times of our choosing throughout the year, we give the Custodian a Letter of Instruction (form provided by them), directing them to send a QCD in certain amounts to one or more 501(C)3 charitable organizations. They provide a written confirmation of the transfers. I usually notify PPUW and others that "the check is in the mail", to assure it gets credited to my pledge. In addition, at the time I make a pledge, I usually advise the organization that I will be fulfilling it with a once-yearly QCD from my IRA.

We are extremely pleased with the process. It makes it easy to keep track of major gifts to the causes we support and to reduce our federal tax liability, while remaining in compliance with all the tax laws. I highly recommend it to anyone who qualifies!"
